AES Asks to Suspend CRES Switching

AES Ohio seeks to pause customer and provider switching. Learn how if it could briefly turn off your Ohio Energy Choice and affect your electricity bills.

AES Upgrade to Pause Switching

AES may suspend switching electricity providers. Learn why and how your electricity bills could be affected.
AES Ohio wants to briefly suspend provider switching. But what if you need to shop providers when the shoulder months start? We’ve got you covered!

This spring, the AES Ohio Customer Information System is getting upgraded to smooth out billing and related systems to better serve their customers. But for AES to do this, they will need to suspend enrollments for new providers entering the market and even switching consumers to retail providers. Given the enormity of the project, consumers could experience delays and hiccups anywhere from mid-February to May 1. And those could cost you more on your Dayton electric bill.

AES Switching Pause May Cost You More

Most interruptions will run from late March into early April. Those Dayton electricity consumers who try to switch providers will need to wait longer for AES to electronically process the change. Similarly, providers will not be able to set up accurate dates for starting or ending service during this period. For some customers, it means they could wind up paying a higher rate for a week longer than they’d like to. It’s also possible for these delays to cause mistakes so customers think they’ve been slammed.

But the big inconvenience for shopping is that this pause comes at the beginning of the spring shoulder months, when rates are usually low! What do you do if need a new plan? Shop and switch now. If you compare rates Apples To Apples, these three are the cheapest rates in the AES Ohio service area right now.
