Has the best electric plan in Cleveland changed?
In February of this year we wrote about the best electric plan in Cleveland (check out the Ohio Energy Ratings post here). At the time, Direct Energy offered a great rate, 6.2 cents per kWh, and some other incentives to earn our recommendation.
Just five months later, things have changed!
Compare electric suppliers to find the best rate in Cleveland.
In a few months, our former pick for best electric plan in the area increased from 6.2 to 6.4 cents per kWh. The U.S. Energy Information Administration projects an even greater increase through 2019. That’s why smart shoppers are looking for a fixed-rate plan with a cheap rate to lower their electric bills in Cleveland.
Currently, the best plan available in Cleveland is the Public Power 12-month fixed plan at 6.0 cents per kWh. With this low price, Public Power saves you $180 or more over the course of the contract compared to other Illuminating Company electric suppliers. Public Power also doesn’t charge a cancellation fee which means you are free to choose another electric supplier at any time.
Coming in a close second for best electric price in Cleveland is the Constellation 12 month home power plan at 6.2 cents per kWh. Shoppers interested in this plan should know that unlike Public Power and Direct Energy, with Constellation it will charge you $25 to cancel your plan so you can switch electric suppliers.
For customers looking for green energy in Ohio, Constellation also offers a 12 month green home power plan at just 0.2 cents per kWh more that the 12 month home power plan. Though the green home power plan will cost you a few more dollars, wind turbines generate 100% of your energy, which is really important when it comes to reducing your family’s carbon footprint.
Can a fixed-rate plan save you money while Cleveland electric prices increase?
Maybe you’re the kind of person that prefers a no-strings-attached type of deal. While that’s understandable, are you willing to pay the price for that freedom?
A few months ago, the Direct Energy Live Brighter 12 plan was offered at 6.2 cents per kWh. Today, the price has increased to 6.4 cents per kWh. It may be only a 3% increase, but it’s pretty clear evidence of increasing electric prices in Cleveland.
Committing to fixed-rate plan now will save you money as prices continue to go up over the next year. You’ll also enjoy consistency in your rate and bill every month. And, you can still maintain your absolute freedom when you choose an electric plan with no cancellation fee!
