Disconnect Fees and Problems (345 reviews)
Poor Billing and Account Management
“ Biling cycles consistently change without proper notification. While meter reads DO change, billing cycles should not. This ultimately leading to disconnection/reconnection fees. I would NEVER reccoment this to a friend. If you travel it is not likely that you will recieve proper notification when a disconnection notice or billing issue arises, leading to returning home with no AC and a refrigerator full of rotten food. I even called to ask if they would work with me and there was nothing they are willing to do. They claim to be an accredited business from a couple of organizations, which Im not sure how that is possible unless these so-callled business organizations operate with zero merit. ”

TERRIBLE! Just don't do it!
“ I am a current customer of GME because I am still under one of their 24 month contracts. I have had 400 dollar bills for the last three months. I have a 800 sq ft Apt. My parents have a 3000 sq ft HOUSE and use a thousand more KW than I do and their bill is CONSTANTLY 150 dollars cheaper than mine. It makes no sense. Then I noticed my contract had me locked into 13.09 a KW. I emailed customer service about this and never got a response. So then I tried to call customer service. After being on hold for an hour they told me it was going to be $295 to cancel or even get a different plan with less of a KW. So now I have to have my heat on 67 degrees just to get the bill to be under 400 dollars but still 15$ shy of 300. Thanks green mountain energy. Its easier to make your customer suffer rather than offering an ideal service. as soon as I get an address change i am disconnecting and never looking back. The cancel fee is cheaper than a bill that high. ”

Worst cust service ever experienced
“ I am dropping them after 5 years due to lack of customer service! I tried calling and using their on line account management sys several times to set up direct draft, and it still doesn't work. Then when I logged in again they said my service was being disconnected and I had been sent a disconnect notice. I had not received any such notice. I called to talk to a rep and they said their system had a problem and then hung up on me. I thought the cable industry was bad, but their customer service is worse. I haven't shopped rates yet, but I have filed a complaint with the PUC and will read reviews about customer service before getting stuck with another company like this. Buyer Beware! ”

Billing and Accounting Disaster
“ Direct Energy uses an online billing and customer system that appears to have been developed in the 90's. It is cumbersome, inefficient and failed multiple times to accept my credit card change. Then, the system failed to correctly credit my account for my manually-input payment, even though they sent me an email confirmation of the payment. They finally sent me a letter asking for payment for the same invoice they had already confirmed payment for. The letter included a threat to disconnect service on October 19, and although the letter was dated October 2, I did not receive it until October 17. I could not deal with the disaster of customer service and poor billing and payment systems any more and switched to Bounce Energy. ”
